She Bought Into the Lie

If you haven't heard about the hullabaloo concerning Miley Cyrus, I'm going to assume that you live under a rock. Many have said that it's just sad that we are focused on her than on the other major problems going on in our society right now.  I have spent many hours thinking about the whole sordid affair & this is what I realized.

What Miley did was to show us the underlying problem with Hollywood, the music industry & progressives.  (Yes, I'm bringing politics into it.)  You know what the problem is?  Moral relativism.  What MC did was nothing new.  The same thing happened in the ancient societies of Greece & Rome.  Although I doubt the ancient Greeks or Romans had flashing lights, pink plush dancing bears and foam fingers, but they did  have problems with: drugs, abortion, political corruption and many other social problems.

Miley showed us the hedonistic, anything goes, just do what feels good to you philosophy propagated by the aforementioned groups.  According to them, there's no reason to hold back, or feel shame or to be accountable for any actions you do.  Billy Ray has said that he wanted to be her friend while he was raising her, when what she really needed was a father holding her accountable. But, that proverbial ship has sailed.

You know, the bible talks about moral relativism, but before I hit that high point, you need to know what I think about the bible.  Here's what I know about the greatest book ever written:  I believe that the bible is the inspired Word of God.  I believe He wrote using men as His instruments.  I believe it is perfect in every way, yes, even the old testament.  Until you have read it, don't criticize it, because I can guarantee you, you have no idea what you're talking about.  If you are interested in reading it, start with the book of John in the New Testament.  It's a true love story.  You've all seen signs that say John 3:16 and that is God's word in a nutshell.  He loved, He loves, He is love.  Awesomesauce.  After John, go to Romans, after that, call me, we'll talk!

I remember the first time I read this passage about moral relativism.  It hit me square in the heart & I had to take a good long look at myself to see where I fell.  It's in 2 Timothy 4:1-5, but pay special attention to 3 & 4.  (I made it extra big so you can see it really well.)

"4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry."

A time will come, well folks, it's been here.  I pray for wisdom.  I pray that I can keep my head about me at all times & remember what the gospel says.  I pray that I don't fall for what the world is offering.  I pray that I can keep my eyes on the One who created me & loves me.  I pray for my children and their friends to have eyes that see.  I pray they know that God has a special plan for them & He loves them more than Hopson & I do.  Lastly, I pray for Miley.  I pray she will see the lie she has bought into & realize that God has destined her for greater things too.

Celebrating Life & God's truth,
~ashley

  1. What makes me even angrier about all this was eloquently put in an article posted by my 19 yo daughter.. yes, she is 19!!
    Here it is..
Re-posted from Madeline Adams because I don't know where the 'share' button is.

Found this, and for all of you posting about how terrible Miley Cyrus is at the VMAs (who should care anyway???) plz read.

    Dear Society,

If you think a woman in a tan vinyl bra and underwear, grabbing her crotch and grinding up on a dance partner is raunchy, trashy, and offensive but you don’t think her dance partner is raunchy, trashy, or offensive as he sings a song about “blurred” lines of consent and propagating rape culture, then you may want to reevaluate your acceptance of double standards and your belief in stereotypes about how men vs. women “should” and are “allowed” to behave.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Jill

Now, I don't know who Dr Jill is, but I DO know that while we yell and scream about what MC did, WHY are we NOT yelling and screaming about what that guy wrote?? Were we not paying attention? Were we so distracted my MC we didn't listen to the lyrics? Or have we become so de-sensitized by songs with offensive lyrics we just shrug and criticize the obvious? MC just danced and only a limited number of people saw it... The song will be played over and over again for many years.. I know what offends ME more...
    Something to ponder...

    1. Oh.... by definition a progressive is someone " favoring or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas." There are many liberal progressive Christians in the world and I take offense at being accused of being an influencing factor in hollywood, or MC... Really??
