Pretty is...

Hello dear readers; long time no write.  I have been writing, just not on here, but that's a different subject for another time. I was scrolling through social media today.  (I hate social media, have I ever said that?)  Well, I do, and when I get on it, I keep asking myself why am I here?  Don't I have laundry to wash/dry/fold & put away, or a dishwasher to unload, or dinner to cook, or toe jam to get up off the floor?!  Apparently not, because I just kept on scrolling.  I'm trying to really limit my time on FB, except for I Mom So Hard, those 2 are hi.lar.i.ous!  Their new one on bathing suits must not be missed. Ok, well that was a little rabbit trail, sorry!  I was looking at several things on Facebook:  1. pictures from my youngest's 8th grade banquet & 2.  a blog posting from another mom.  I'm just going to discuss #1 & have 2 thoughts on the subject. First, the 8th grade dance pictures.  Everyone looke...

Let Them See You Dance

I have MANY things in my life to be thankful for.  Much more than I deserve.  Today is Harry's birthday, he's 17, where did that time go?  Hopson's birthday was yesterday, I won't tell you how old he is, but he's one year older than me.  If you need to know my age, click here .  :)  I was able to do something earlier this month that was one of the coolest things ever. I love to dance.  I always have.  My friend Steven, who was my boyfriend in middle school, used to put his hand on top of my head to try to stop me from dancing.  My theme song back then was, All She Wants to Do is Dance .  You know, not much has changed.  I hear music & I just have to dance.  (granted, things to move quite like they did 30 years ago.)  So does Elizabeth.  I'll be cooking dinner; music is playing; E & I are dancing around the kitchen.  Yes, it's a personal problem, but a good one if you have to have a personal problem, but...

Pretty Pretty Girls

Image
Stephanie & Hop I have to say, my boys have great taste in girls.  The girls they hang out with (and date) are just as pretty on the inside as they are on the out.  And to this momma, that's a big deal .  We don't have time for mean girls around here.  A BIG telltale sign about the kind of girls they are is that they are kind to little siblings.  They never complain when the little ones want to say hey, or get excited that other teenagers are in the house.  Elizabeth mentioned that she feels like she has a lot of brothers because of all the guys who come in and out of the house.  The girls are just as nice.  Hop's girl friends, and his girlfriend, Stephanie, are always sweet to the little ones.  Thanks kiddos!  Mama Nance loves you for this!!!  Last night after Sadie Hawkins, Margaret & Haley wanted to wake up Henry last night to say hey, and they pulled in Harry to help.  Any chance...

Sophomores & Sadie...Movies Rule

Image
Harry & Margaret and Nolen & Pete Today Harry & his friend Pete were asked to Sadie by two sweet girls:  Margaret & Nolen. They went with movie themes for their posters.  Of course I LOVE this idea because we are big movie people in our house.  We will quote a line from a favorite movie in a heartbeat.  Harry's new favorite movie is Pitch Perfect.  It is aca-hilarious!  Not appropriate for the younger two, although I did let E watch the singing parts.  Some of us have to wait to get to heaven to get our ability to sing, so we love to listen to those who can. Margaret's poster is aca-awesome. Thank goodness Nolen isn't an angry Elf!  :) We tried to talk Harry & Pete into wearing our banana and gorilla costumes to answer the door, but Pete said no.  :(  Party Pooper!  We thought it would be hilarious, but we are very strange, so there you go.   ...

One Last Sadie

Image
Stephanie & Hop As you know, this is Hop's year of lasts.  I know how the girl's mothers feel wondering if your child will be asked to homecoming or prom.  That is how I feel about my boys at Sadie time.  Hop was asked tonight.  :)  Stephanie is a very smart & talented young lady.  (she also has a very sweet mama & daddy!)  I'm thankful for sweet girls.  I remember looking up to high school girls when I was in middle school & E has some great ones to look to.  They love the Lord and their families.  They are involved in different activities at the school & are always sweet to me and the other children in our family.  (huge points earned on the last aspect!)  Thanks Steph for asking Hop!  I know y'all are going to have a wonderful time.  It's the last one for you both...so have lots of fun & make a ton of memories.  :) The American Flag ornament is appropriat...

Wide Open Spaces

Image
Molly & Hop Do you remember being 17?  The sky was the limit & if you could dream it you could achieve it.  I love to see Hop & his friends and know that they have their entire lives ahead of them.  It's like riding at a full gallop in wide open spaces.  You feel like you could fly.  (If you've never ridden a horse at a full gallop, I highly recommend it!) Tonight is a major milestone for Hop & his friends:  Junior prom.  Y'all know how much I love his friends .  They are really a special group of kiddos; I see so much potential in them, and I fully expect them to change the world. Hopson asked his friend Molly.  I love her dress; it looks like Monet painted it.  Her hair was so pretty.  Elizabeth & I loved looking at every one's hair tonight & we both agree that hers was our fave!  I know they will have a wonderful time together tonight.  Molly & Hopson h...

Yea, He Didn't Wait!

Image
Molly & Hop I have been begging Hoppy to tell me who he was planning to ask to prom.  He never would tell me.  He said he didn't want it to end up on the blog.  Well Hop, I have only been writing this blog for almost two months & have ten more to go, so guess what, you will be the subject of other postings.  Sorry! Hopper asked his friend Molly.  Isn't she cute?!  (and she's super sweet!)  I am proud of him because he didn't wait until the last minute to ask her.  Whew.  Now she'll have plenty of time to find a perfect dress to wear & we can get his tux to match her dress. He left last night with a pad of paper and my Sharpie markers.  I asked him what he was doing & he gave me that 'mom don't ask' look.  I said if he was going to ask someone to the prom then he needed to take my camera so they could document it.  (I was not invited.  Insert hurt feelings here.  Just kidding, he's 17, I don't t...

Sadie, Shopping, Bow Ties, and Boys

Image
Saturday is the...Sadie Hawkins dance, in my khaki pants, there's nothing better...oh oh oh...girls ask the guys, it's always a surprise, there's nothing better, do you like my sweater.  Sorry that song is hilarious, but around here the boys are  very excited about the dance.  Both Hop & Harry have been asked, and I have to admit for boys, they are being a little high maintainced about it. New Bow Tie & Khaki Pants They have never worried about what they are going to wear before, but for some reason, this year it really matters.  Um, ok so off we go to the mall.  My guys would rather go to the dentist than to go shopping, not to mention they have lacrosse practice 4 days a week, and yesterday was a practice day.  So the fact of the matter was we only had 30 minutes tops to find what we needed.  It's called speed shopping, and I actually do it quite well.  Is this what gi...

It's All in the Asking

Image
Both my boys have been asked to the Sadie Hawkins dance!  Yea!!!  I can't even imagine how the girl's moms must feel as each homecoming/prom approaches...will she get asked?  Please let her get asked!  The pressure...the joy if she's asked & the disappointment if she's not.  I know it may seem silly, but it's a right of passage.  It's someone saying to themselves, yeah, I think they would be cool to hang out with.  Around here, it's all in the asking.  The kids really try to be original.  We did it face to face, but now creativity is the key.  Of course the girls do a little better job than the boys. The Junior Way: The 4 wrappers... With Hop, because he is a junior the girls can do things to the guy's cars.  Hop was Seran wrapped.  Very cute.  If you look closely, you can see the boxes, tubes, and tape container on the car too.  It took those sweet girls about 30 minutes t...
