Don't Tell Me You Love Me

Image
There are so many who make these vows, and then quickly forget them when the difficulties of life hit the proverbial fan.  It's easy to love when the going is easy.  It's another when your slogging your way through life, marriage, and children.  I have been blessed to witness so many whose vows were a way of life.  They weren't words; they were actions. Today I went in to get my crazy hair cut and highlighted.  I'm sitting there with my hair pulled through a cap (I look like a lionfish), bleach smothered on my hair and cap, and a clear shower cap on top.  Yeah, it's a rockin' look.  We're all talking and I look over to see an older lady shuffling towards a chair get her hair washed. This is a common sight because there are women of all ages who come into the beauty shop.  It's what happened afterward that had me in tears.   As she is walking, I noticed she had a belt on and her husband, a younger woman along with the hairdresser hel...

Sometimes Beauty Is Painful

Image
And here we go... Guys have it so much easier.  They don't have to worry about fixing their hair.  No make-up. (I hope)  If a guys clothes don't really match no one really cares.  But, if a girl doesn't have it all together, she may want to check her back to see how many knives are stuck in it.  Not all girls are hateful, but there are enough of them out there to make you feel bad about yourself.  Don't believe me?  There is research to prove that prettier people get hired more often and make more money.  I think this is true to some degree.  I know that we have a child that responds to pretty teachers more than average looking ones.  Is it right?  No, but sometimes that's how life is.  Some like to judge the outside before they take time to know the inside. This part hurts the worst. Our family can grow hair like nobody's business.  I had to start having my eyebrows waxed at age 11, and before that my...

Is That...Hair?

The older I am getting the more hair I am losing.  It's really weird.  Is this happening to anyone else?  I know that I'm supposed to be losing a certain amount of hair each day, but it almost looks like I could start making my own wig from the hair I am losing. I have mixed emotions when my hair is wrapped around my fingers as I'm washing it.  The gray coming out doesn't  bother me, it's the hair with any kind of color that makes me sad.  I'm pretty sure the color is being replaced by gray hair...great.  I can't say I'm really surprised, my MeMaw was completely gray by the time she was 30.  I'm just going to blame the fam for all my gray hair.  (and all my wrinkles, both the good ones and the bad)  I guess I'll have to start spending an extra hour getting my hair first colored and then highlighted when I go get my hair done.  Why can't women with gray hair be considered to be wise?  We're just considered old. I'm...

Ok, Duh!

How I feel my hair looks on a bad hair day. I'm surfing the web reading articles that are mindless & at least a little interesting when I see the line:  " Can Bad Hair Really Ruin Your Day ".  Did I really just read that?  Because duh, yes it can.  If you're a guy, ask any woman who has a bad hair day & I bet at least more than half say it will affect their mood.    (if you're a woman, you already know the answer)  What floors me is that someone actually spent money to "answer" that question.  Now, I wouldn't call in sick to work because of a bad hair day, I'm not that vain, but you would be able to tell, just by looking at me that I am not altogether happy about it either.  Usually if I'm having a bad hair day I just pull it back out of my face.  A girls does what she has too & moves on.  I'm just thankful I have a headful of hair.  I guess it's all...

The Real Me

Image
Everyday I fight.  No, it's nothing serious or life-threatening.  I fight my own vanity.  Part of me wishes the big hair from the 80's would just come back in style.  I can totally do big hair, and I don't really have to try too hard. Here is the real me.  I'm a riot of curls....  What's so sad is that it takes minimal effort for me to get my hair to do this.  A little mousse, about 5-7 minutes with my blow dryer, and some hair spray.  How you see my hair on my profile picture to the right is how I want my hair to look everyday, but today it's raining and humid.  Since it's just going to curl up anyway as soon as I step outside no matter how much I straighten and spray it I just went with the real me.  It's Au natural.  Lovely isn't it? Hopson likes my hair like this.  Crazy man, he wants me to look wild and untamed I guess.  He also like me with no make-up on, (I have very little on ...

I Call it Camouflage

My MeMaw was completely grey by the time she was 30, or so she claimed.  My mom was going grey, but her hair was so many different colors we never noticed.  (she liked to change colors and would sometimes end up with very interesting colors.  another story for another time.)  I've noticed more and more grey in the mirror.  I'm fighting them tooth and nail, or more like camouflaging my hair to hide them. I'll be putting lip stick on in the car and looking in the mirror and see a grey hair has the nerve to stick up straight so I'll pull it out, name it after one of the children, and hand it to them.  They give me that smarty pants smirk and tell me I'm, haha very funny.  I told them it's their fault I'm going grey. Thank goodness for the technology of hair coloring!  I have decided to humiliate myself and let you see part of the process.  Not all the grey, but just me looking like a lion who stuck their paw in an electri...

Fridays and Good Hair Days

Image
...always make me smile!  Good hair days are the best!  Combine it with a Friday & it's a win/win situation!  I can have a hectic schedule, everything can be blowing up in my face, but if I'm having a good hair day, all is well.  I have some high maintenance hair, so when it falls just right...yes, it makes me happy.  Then I spray it with enough super hold hairspray so when I shake my head it all moves together.  (think of the movie Hairspray)  It's really kind of funny.  It's a good thing I don't smoke because I think I could literally burst into flames.  When I don't straighten my hair I look like Frieda from Peanuts. "Don't you like my naturally curly hair?" Spiral curls that's what I have, but what I want is stick straight like Hopson & the children. No such luck without a little (or a lot) of help.  You can always tell when the humidity is too high because I will have my hair pulled back.  Oh ...
