I Love Groundhog Day!

Look at all the people!!!
Yes, it's the day we all know and love, Groundhog Day, and for some odd reason, I LOVE IT!  The day when we depend on a rodent to let us know if we'll have an early spring or 6 more weeks of winter.  If I was a groundhog, I'd put my vote in for an early spring.  But, because it's been so warm these last few weeks I wouldn't be surprised if winter hangs on with all its got.  Boo cold weather, it makes me sad, and no one likes a sad mommy. ;)  BTW, Phil did see his shadow, so six more weeks of winter.

I think Punxsutawney Phil is the national groundhog.  He lives in Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, PA.  There is an actual Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.  Love it!!!  I wonder if they have honorary memberships?  I think I would like one.  It may be a men's club though, because every time I see pictures there are only guys in it.  They all look so happy, and you know what, I think I would be too.

If you've never seen the movie Groundhog Day, please go rent it.  It has some classic scenes.  You know how much the fam loves to quote movies!  Remember..."don't drive angry!"  Ha!  I think I'm going to have to watch that movie at some point today.  :)

Helicopter parents just about do me in!  Y'all, I'm getting my soapbox out on this one.  I mean it, they really bother me.  If you're a self-admitted helo parent, you need to read this posting. First off, let me say, I am not a perfect parent.  I am blessed with wonderful children, but I know they didn't get that way by accident.  It's hard work to let your children go & let them learn how to stand on their own two feet.  Their standing starts when they are young & progresses as they get older so when they are about to go to college they are actually semi-responsible young adults. (semi-responsible because they are not completely supporting themselves  yet, and yes there is a HUGE difference!) You may be wondering where this ranting is coming from?  At church 2 Sundays age I had a mom totally wig-out about leaving her child in a room of other 5 years olds.  The child was fine:  she came in & was getting ready to play or go find a friend to talk to.

Well Good for Fair Fanny Petro

This is one of favorite sayings from the movie, The Help.  The way Skeeter says it with just the right touch of 'I don't give a flying monkey's behind' is perfect...I.mean.PERFECT.  And you have to say it like  you are from 1960's deep south.  Which means you don't really pronounce your r's.  Here's the clip from youtube. This is a saying I'll say sometimes if somebody is talking about something I don't give two shakes about.  I thought it just a few hours ago as I was listening to the radio.  But to back up just a bit so you know why I said it... ...The older I get the more I don't  understand our fascination with Hollywood stars, musicians, and people who play collegiate/professional sports.  Most of them are not worth our time of day.  There is a large portion of them that are just, well, trash.  If they were living in your community, and were just a plain Jane normal person, you probably wouldn't have anything to do with them.

A Little Bone to Pick

I have a little bone to pick with Team USA.  Hey y'all, will you please sing our national anthem when you win the gold medal?  I mean, you're standing there on the top level of the podium; the gold medal is hanging around your neck; our flag is being raised above all others; our national anthem is the one being played; and you are just standing there.  You are a citizen of the greatest country in the world.  Sing, please sing.  If you're not going to sing, then I want you smiling and/or crying like crazy. I can't even imagine all the work you have done to get to the point where you are now.  All the years of training, and forgoing a 'regular life' to pursue your dream.  I'm just a random mom from Alabama, but my patriotism is deep.  When you medal, we all medal.  We love your spirit, love it when you recognize your competitors, and love your sportsmanship.  Remember that there are hundred of thousands of little children watching you and wanting to be j
