Messy Apron...Clean Sleeves

As you may know, I like to cook.  I have a favorite apron that I like to wear, especially if I know it's going to be messy.  Henry informed me that I needed to wash it.  When I told him that I had, he screwed his face up & told me I needed to wash it better.  I have to agree with him, it looks a little dirty.  But, my goal is as they say in the movie Ratatouille:  "Messy apron, clean sleeves".  It took a long time to get it this messy, and I think that's why it's my favorite.



Tonight for some unknown reason, I offered to make homemade sweet and sour chicken.  As soon as the words left my mouth I think Hopson started to drool.  His answer was, 'Oh yes mam please!'.  Whom ever he marries will have an easy life cooking because that child will eat almost anything.  He's sore from starting back football off season & lacrosse getting cranked up.  He will be in great shape in a few weeks, but I'm glad dinner will make him happy. 


I realized that it was going to be a pain cooking this when I remembered the chicken is fried.  It's not that it's a hard dish or even too time consuming to make, it's just frying chicken...the clean-up is yuck.  But for the fam, I'm happy to do it...tonight.  (I made enough for them to have for breakfast tomorrow.)  I do have to say, it looks pretty.  I like it when food looks pretty and tastes good.  I think I'll go have a bit now.

My friend Cathy has the greenest thumb.  Her yard is immaculate and she grows the prettiest flowers.  She is a master gardener & you can tell because her yard is mac-daddy.  I appreciate people who grow things because I kill everything.  I would love to have that talent, but when I try to grow stuff it just dies.  :/  I'm also am highly allergic to poison ivy & every time I dig in the dirt I get covered in it.  Boo poison ivy! Hey Mom...You're Hovering!

Helicopter parents just about do me in!  Y'all, I'm getting my soapbox out on this one.  I mean it, they really bother me.  If you're a self-admitted helo parent, you need to read this posting. First off, let me say, I am not a perfect parent.  I am blessed with wonderful children, but I know they didn't get that way by accident.  It's hard work to let your children go & let them learn how to stand on their own two feet.  Their standing starts when they are young & progresses as they get older so when they are about to go to college they are actually semi-responsible young adults. (semi-responsible because they are not completely supporting themselves  yet, and yes there is a HUGE difference!) Ready and GO

Not to brag, but (actually I am bragging here.  FYI, when someone says 'but' in the middle of a sentence, they are oftentimes contradicting themselves.) I have successfully taught three children how to drive.  Today, I begin my fourth and final journey in teaching the art of driving.  Don't kid  yourself, driving is an art.  Have you seen how half the people drive on the road?  Some of them need a few more lessons.  It's a ready and go kind of day! I used to joke that, with my brother being 7 years younger than I am, my mom just threw him the keys and made him teach himself how to drive.  Henry is 7 years younger than Hopson, and  I've been looking forward to having a chauffeur since Elizabeth turned 16.  I always have to drive everyone everywhere, so I'll be happy to sit, observe and teach from the passenger's side.  (Hopson is turning into his dad & likes me to drive him as well.)  Now I don't have to go to the groc...
